Is Babywearing Cool for Dads? A Big YES!
Mention babywearing, or carrying a baby around in a carrier, and the image that springs up in most people’s minds is that of the mum doing all the work!
It’s true that only mums can breastfeed, but apart from that, there’s nothing that mum can do that dad can’t. Long gone are the days when it was only mum who woke in the night, changed nappies or took endless walks with the stroller – dads are stepping up to the plate now and babywearing is just one of the ways that they can rock fatherhood.
Dads want to be more involved with parenting now, and as we’re also seeing a change in working patterns, with more active and involved dads, seeing a man wearing a baby is only going to become more common!
Here’s a few reasons why baby-wearing dads are cool:
Carrying your baby keeps you active and multi-tasking. Babies love the movement and closeness of being carried.
Another benefit is that complete strangers – usually senior women – will often approach babywearing dads to say how pleased they are that they’re spending time with their baby. OK, guys shouldn’t get an award for just turning up, but you have to admit that positive attention makes the world a better place.
Wearing your baby means you can offer almost all the same bodily comfort that a mum can (with breastfeeding being the obvious exception), which can lead to better bonding between father and child.
Let’s all cheer for babywearing dads (not too loudly, though, as baby’s sleeping…)!
And YES!!! Babywearing for dads is COOL!
